airbnb logo //2

I like the idea of the logo changing, here it changes the logo changes into everything it is made up of
which i mentioned in the previous post.

but I think a good idea would be to take this idea and go a step further, i think a good idea would be would be for the airbnb logo to be used as an arrow, pointing people in the right direction to go..
This idea came from obviously the airbnb logo merged with this game i used to play called crazy taxi, there would be an arrow above the car and you had to follow the direction of the arrow.

obviously it would look nothing like the game, just the concept

Airbnb Logo Design

I like that airbnb allows room for creativity, you can change and transform their logo's colour, stroke etc as long as you keep the same shape.

The shape is meant to represent a lot of things combined into one: people, places, love and the letter A, you can see this in the first image. This makes sense and works well.

Myself and Andrew have discussed this and we like the paint brush stroke, especially for an app because it's fun and inviting.

App Inspiration

(the app's have changed slightly from when these screen shots were taken.)

VINE:
  • Vine is probably the best app to get a lot of inspiration from for our app but make it better.
  • This app is very simplified which is good because people of most ages will be able to understand and use it.
  • I like how theres no recored button you can just click anywhere on video the screen.
  • You can recored, save and upload video - saving is very handy because you can go and come back to it, to create better stories.
  • on the last screen shot where the profile photo is, you can also swipe across and then the bio for that persons profile will appear, I like the idea of having hidden drawers to make the app more clean and tidy, otherwise there would be too much information/ text all over the place which wouldn't be appealing to the eye.
  • the word search has basically been replaced by explore because when you hit this button lots of categories appear, such as the ones you can see in the 3rd screen shot, "animals, art, comedy and DIY" theres also a popular now tab and on the rise, instead of the user searching they start exploring.. this is also good because theres more of a chance someone will view your video.
  • Vine has a limit of 6 seconds for videos which may seem like a stupidly short time but it allows people to get more creative and different from any other app.

KEEK:

  • Keek is a video app but very different to Vine.
  • On Keek you can recored and upload videos - i think being able to upload videos is an important feature to add for a video app - this might seem obvious to say but vine only very recently made this feature available, being able to upload means you don't have to have the app open at all times you can just recored on your normal camera which saves battery.
  • keek allows users to "follow and subscribe" Im not sure if i like this feature or not because is it neccercary to have both? when you follow someone their videos appear on your time line but when you subscribe to someone you get notifications through saying when they upload, i personally think you only need one either a follow or subscribe then an added button saying "notify me when this person uploads yes or no.
  • on keek hashtags are big part because this is how people search for videos they want too see though they also have a discover page but it's not as organised as vine.
  • videos have a time limit of 30 seconds, but theres no stopping and starting like vine, it's all just one full video, almost like a vlog.
  • Between March 2013 and June 2013 Keek added 24 million users to bring its network to a total of 45 million registered users

INSTAGRAM:

  • Instagram is a picture based app but recently have made it possible to upload and recored videos too.
  • Instagram is basically an album of your life where people upload as they go.
  • Instagram became popular and well known for it's filters.
  • The video aspect of instagram allows you to upload and recored much like vine.
  • instagram is very simple and easy to use.
  • you're able to private chat within instagram too in the first screen shot you can see the box text to the refresh button, within this you can send images to your friends and also chat through this too. i thought this could be a good idea for the airbnb app because a user could message another user and ask to see a particular part of the room they're thinking of staying in for example.. i think this is a good idea because then you dont have to have it on your timeline.\
  • instagram has a search/discover place it used to be known as the 'pop page' aka 'popular page' this is where pictures/videos with the most likes used to appear but this ended up being just celebrity pictures because they always got the most likes. - this is a good idea for the airbnb site
  •  It has now changed to "based on people you follow"

 SNAPCHAT:

  • snapchat is a very very different app in comparison to the others i have spoken about.
  • snapchat is a video/picture based story app
  • users are able to send images/videos to friends individually or as a whole.
  • if users send the image/video to their friends their friends will see the image for a max of 10 seconds oe a minimum of 1 second depending on what you choose to send it as, once the time limit is up it is not possible to view the image again.
  • if the user chooses to send their video/picture to the story that will be up for all of your friends to see for 24 hours, this is how a story is created because the user would keep sending images/videos and the story would build up.
  • i have chosen to speak about snapchat because i think i could get some inspiration for the airbnb app such as.. writing on the images.. in the second screen shot you can see text on the picture a lot of people chat through this or simply caption it, this is different to any other video app.
  • also by swiping across on the video you are able to change the filter slightly, i like this aspect because it's hidden and makes the app look clean rather than having filter options at the bottom or somewhere else on the screen.

Video Inspiration #2

The reason I am posting this video is not for the concept of it but within the video you can see the stars are in different locations all the time and i think that fits with our concept of how airbnb are different locations all over the world.

in this video theres a scene of people chucking water over each other but basically they was throwing water out of the camera shot and resulting it in it going on someone else. here are some screen shots to exaplain it better.
