Filming

The other day I booked out the studio so we could do some filming, I bought in my camera and we set it up on the tripod in front of the soft box, it was my first time in the studio and I really like how the soft-box came down from the celling it made it much easier to manoeuvre. 

in the time that we was in the studio we managed to film everything we needed, we got everyone to hold up a piece of paper saying "I am creative because.." then got them to say a reason to why they are creative, we chose to be in the video ourselves because we're on the course and it was easier than finding a load of different people. 

After we was done in the studio myself and dan then went on to edit whilst chloe and glen went to work on the stop motion part of the video. When editing we came across a problem, the camera wasn't in focus for the whole of the video apart from right at the end. None of us noticed when filming it looked perfectly fine in the studio, we was upset about this and came to the conclusion we had to discard what we had done. We then got the camera back out and had to film in front of a white background, it took up a lot more time but it was worth it in the end as it looked HD. 

Quick Update

Today Glen joined our group, which is good because now we have an even number of people which is useful as we have now been able to divided the group up into film / stop motion. Myself and Glen will both bring in our cameras and tripods to class on Thursday, this allows the group to work on both at the same time.

The Plan Of Action 

Me and Dan are both going to be in the studio tomorrow doing the filming, I have sent out emails to a few people asking them to come down and be in the video for us. Whilst we're doing this Chloe and Glen will be in a classroom with good lighting to create the stop motion part of the video. 

UPDATE:

Since Thursday communication with the group has been excellent, we've set up a group chat through imessage, this way we're constantly sending videos / pictures of our progress and asking for each others opinions, it's been extremely helpful and this way when it comes to meeting in class it's not like we're seeing each others work for the first time. 

After effects #3

I have combined both end clips to see what they would look like together and with music, I have sourced and added a subtle instrumental track to see what it would look and sound like. I think the music complements the video really well and the way it ends on the last musical note ends the it perfectly. I have spoken to Chloe and Dan about this and they agreed it looked great, though i still see room for improvement, we havent discussed if there should be colour yet or left black and white. Though i think things like that can wait until nearer the end or when we have decided the branding colours for the logo. Though because I have created this ending it has given me an insight into what what the rest of the video should look like, and how much time we have to work with. 

I'm really excited to get in the studio and film the main part to the video, if we can get timings accruate i think the promo video will be just as we envisioned if not better. 

After Effects #2

This is the very last clip we storyboarded about - this was the part with the time and date of the show so everyone who see's the video knows they can attend. The title font is big and bold so for regular text I wanted it to be completely opposite. I was browsing my fonts and came across Moon Flower Bold  I really like how quirky and fun this font is not too mention it's also readable.

With the font in mind I took to After Effects and started playing around, I first sorted all the text into what order I thought looked best. (its only just accrued to me to add where the show is too)

I then set the opacity for the three rows to come in all at the same time but for "you're invited!" I wanted to do something a little different, firstly the reason for adding you're invited is simply tell whoever was watching the promo video that they can come to the show, I then got the idea that it could be a good idea too add a typewriter effect on it, as this makes it seem like someone is writing out their invite. I then added a keyboard sound effect and I think it worked out really well. I asked the group for feedback and they seem to like it too, Chloe mentioned how the invite makes it seem more personal which I agree with. Though I think it could be improved somehow so when in class with the group we'll come back to it.

After Effects #1

I wanted to work a bit in after effects so when it came to class time we wouldn't be staring at a blank canvas, I wanted to create something that we can leave as is - if good enough or refine it a bit more as a group. I didn't want to create an opening title because Dan is working on the Logo and I think that should be incorporated into the opening in a big way. So I chose to focus on the ending of the video.

We chose the name "I Am Creative" which I really like I wanted to play around with this in After Effects, I had a vision in my head of what I wanted this part of the video too look like, I have seen things like this before on TV adverts but wasn't able to find anything when searching, mainly because I didn't know what to search because it's not easy to explain.

This part of the video I think would look best right at the end just before the invite clip because I think it will sum up the whole video. 

As you can see in the print screen above the word creative is different to what you see in the video, I was originally going to have the word with no colour like the rest but i think it really stands out more when in black. I think this change made it come together.

In the print screen above you can see how what I have done in order to create the video, I sourced and added sound effects, I'm not too keen on the ding sound effect but it works for now as I cannot find anything else. 

Video Inspiration # 1

I was searching for some video inspiration and came across these. 

The first one is a music video by Nick Jonas. 

I like how the people in the video are holding the boards like we want for our video and I really like how it says "who I am" on one side then turn it over and it says their answer. The fact they don't speak is a good idea to save time because 30 seconds doesn't give a lot of leeway.

Mood Board

I have put together a mood board because there was a range of things that inspired us when we spoke about the idea, below are a few things that stood out the most. 

Quotes that we could get someone to say in the video / play around in after effects as you can see in the picture to the right which says "tonight we are young" i think this would be cool because it grabs the audiences attention. 

In the middle you can see splashes of paint, I think it would be cool to incorporate something like this in the logo. 

at the bottom there is a few fonts that I like and I think would work, as a group we discussed wanting big, bold font that would stand out, our favourite is the very bottom one which is cubano.

New Project || End Of Year Show

On Thursday we got given our new project, which is to brand the end of year graduation show, this project is only 2 weeks long and we have to create a 30 second video, an A4 poster as well as an A3 poster. We also had to get into groups of 3 or 4  I was excited about working in a group because it's such a short project so getting more people involved in one idea would help speed up the process. 

I have teamed up with Chloe and Dan because we get along well and we like a lot of the same styles. We started off brain storming ideas for themes, names, software anything we could think of that we could put our best skills too, then Sue adviced the class to take a step back from the computers for this project she said it was a chance to get really creative in the studio and to have fun with it. 

THE IDEA: 

In class we was going through ideas back and fourth, I mentioned on the spot interviews getting people to express in a few words why they're creative, we thought it would be a good idea to get the people we film to hold up a board saying "I Am Creative Because.." or "Creativity Is" then they would answer. Chloe then suggested that I Am Creative would be a great name for the show itself, as a group we spoke about it and all agreed that it was very fitting. It reminded us of the Reasons To Be Creative conference that we attended which gave us some inspiration too. 

It would be ideal to get people in our class / in the second year to express why they're creative because the show is about us and i feel like thats who the audience would want to see if it was to get chosen. We will most likely be working in the university studio because we can then use their soft box lighting etc.

Because theres only a 30 second limit if theres time we would like to get some footage of people not just class mates but anyone doing creative, fun things to give a visual as well as people speaking.
